THE BRONX - The borough's GOP chairman now faces 25 years in jail after he was arrested in connection with the alleged political bribery scandal involving New York lawmakers and public officials.
Joe Savino allegedly accepted $15,000 in bribes from state Sen. Malcolm Smith (D-Queens) so Smith could be put on the Republican ticket for mayor. He was arrested yesterday.
Barbara Bartoletti, the head of New York's League of Women Voters, says the scandal shows that New York needs campaign finance enforcement to stop any future scandals.
