THE BRONX - A federal judge says he will decide in the next two days whether Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) can impose furloughs on tens of thousands of state workers.

Imposing furloughs would mean state workers would only work four days a week instead of five. A federal judge blocked Paterson from imposing the furloughs that the Legislature had approved.

The measure is intended to save $30 million a week. However, the four unions that filed the suit say Paterson's actions violate the U.S. Constitution's Contract Clause.
