SOUNDVIEW - A Soundview community center is phasing out an after-school program at the end of the year, and a new one will take its place.

Police Athletic League program directors received word last week that they must move their program out of the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community Center by December. They say another program will take its place.

PAL director Jennie Bonilla says she has been actively looking for a new location to house the after-school program. She says the parents of more than 150 children currently rely on them to pick up their kids from school, provide educational enrichment and offer recreational activities.

The Department of Youth and Community Development is giving PAL the boot and plans to establish a "Cornerstone Program" in its place.

Representatives from the DYCD are holding a forum at the community center on Rosedale Avenue to discuss the transition.
