THE BRONX - The Dominican-born Bronx artist Francesca Alcantara wants to raise awareness about gentrification in the Kingsbridge neighborhood she's called home for almost two decades.

So she resorted to what she knows how to do best -- eye-catching performance art. She chose the Kingsbridge Armory as a backdrop.

"The idea of doing it right in front of the armory itself...there are a lot of changes happening right here in this community," she says. "Gentrification is a very big thing."

She says her visual displays are meant to draw neighbors' attention and encourage them to take control of the community's future.

"I don't want to change the face of Kingsbridge," Alcantara says. "We are a black and brown community, an immigrant community, right here in the Bronx."
