KINGSBRIDGE - Kingsbridge residents say they are fighting to gain access to the Jerome Park Reservoir.

Under a Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) plan, the reservoir would be open in 2013 when construction of a filtration plant is complete.

Residents, however, say the plan is unacceptable and that they plan to voice that opinion at a public hearing on June 2. The hearing will be held at the Amalgamated Houses on Cortlandt Park South from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.

The DEP says it's a matter of safety and security to protect the water supply from possible contamination.

Many residents say with proper security measures, residents could access the reservoir safely.
