THE BRONX - Some small business owners along Kingsbridge Road say landlord troubles are making it hard for them to stay in business.

Christian Ramos is the owner of Blue Chus, a 20-year-old shoe and watch repair shop. He says his landlord isn't always doing his job, and it recently took two weeks to get a heating problem fixed. Ramos says that delay in turn hurt his business.

Other business owners in the area say their landlords force them to pay month-to-month rent instead of a set lease, making it impossible for them to secure loans and make improvements to their shops. They say their landlords are often slow to fix heating and water issues, at the cost of losing customers.

Ramos says about 60 to 65 businesses in the area are facing issues, including problems with leases.

One organizer who represents small businesses in the area says some landlords are responsive, but most are not, making it hard for local shops to envision their future.

News 12 emailed the city's Department of Buildings on the issue and is awaiting a response.
