LaGuardia flight grounded due to smoke

THE BRONX - A Delta Air Lines flight had to return to the gate at LaGuardia Airport Thursday morning because of smoke in the cabin.

No injuries have been reported and all passengers were evacuated for safety. As smoke filled up the cabin, flight attendants asked those on board to crouch down for clean air, passengers said.

"The pilot did a wonderful job," said Bronx resident Joseph Juarbe.

Delta Air Lines spokeswoman Susan Elliot said Flight 6020 left the gate at 8:53 a.m., but returned soon after. The 20 passengers on board will be accommodated on other flights.

The cause of the smoke is under investigation.
