THE BRONX - Catholic Charities is trying to conquer hunger in the Bronx with a new food pantry.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan was on hand to celebrate the grand opening of the new food hub in Melrose.

Food items at the pantry were either donated or purchased with government funding.

Goya, the food distributor, says it will donate 300,000 pounds of food.

Officials say they expect to feed more than 350 families a week.

In addition to serving as a pantry, the center will also distribute food to dozens of other pantries in the Bronx that don't have space to store large amounts of food.
