THE BRONX - Nine people, including three children, are recovering after a fire tore through an Edgewater Park apartment building.

According to fire officials, the flames started inside the laundry room of 270 Longstreet Ave. at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Residents say they recently had two of their four dryers removed, and believe the remaining two may have been overworked. They say better maintenance of the machines may have prevented the fire.

The flames were contained to the laundry room and under control in less than an hour. The exact cause remains under investigation.
