THE BRONX - A City Council meeting is planned tonight to discuss proposed legislation that could reduce parking headaches for drivers.

Specifically, the legislation would allow drivers to park on the restricted side of a street if the street has already been cleaned or let them remain in their cars and move when the street is ready to be cleaned.

A study by Transportation Alternatives found that 28 to 44 percent of traffic on some New York City streets is generated by people looking for a parking spot.

Residents say the law would greatly reduce parking troubles and tickets. However, sanitation crews say some streets require more than one cleaning. Many also say it would be difficult for a traffic officer to know when a street has been cleaned.
