Lawmakers put heat on toy-gun vendors

NEW YORK - City lawmakers announced a major crackdown Tuesday on toy gun sales.

The new law would increase fines from $1,000 to $5,000 for venders caught selling the toy guns. Any vender with subsequent violations within a two-year period could pay up to an $8,000 fine and be forced to shutter their business for up to five days.

Police say a Bronx teen was shot in the face last month after pointing a toy gun at officers during a drug bust, adding urgency to the issue.
