THE BRONX - Many parents are irate after receiving a letter from the Department of Education stating admissions responses would not be sent out before the deadline.

About 80,000 eighth-graders are still anxiously waiting to find out whether they got into the high school of their choice due to a lawsuit against the DOE.

A state Supreme Court ruled Friday the DOE could not close down 19 city schools. However, it plans to appeal the ruling and this could further delay responses.

A spokesperson for the DOE says around 5,000 students who applied to specialized schools have received their admissions letters.
