THE BRONX - Freilich Jewelers, the oldest jewelry store in the Bronx, is set to close in December.

Allan Freilich is shutting down the shop to retire.

Freilich has been working in the shop since he was just 6 years old. His father Norman, an immigrant from Poland with a knack for watchmaking, opened up the shop nearly 80 years ago.

Allan worked his way up from helping his father to jewelry maker to eventually taking over the family business.

Freilich says he will miss the longtime customers and employees who have become family.

"It's one of the most difficult things I've ever had to face," says Freilich.

While the physical store will no longer be in service come January, Freilich will still be available by appointment as a private jeweler.
