BROOKLYN - A man suspected of killing his wife on Long Island led police on a chase that ended in a fiery crash at an East New York gas station Friday.

Police say they responded to a 911 call for an assault with a weapon at a home on Seitz Drive in Bethpage at around 12:30 a.m.

When officers got there, they found an unidentified woman dead.

They say they followed a man who took off from the scene and led police on a chase west on the Southern State Parkway and the Belt Parkway before exiting the freeway to Pennsylvania Avenue at a high rate of speed where the suspect crashed into a gas station.

The unidentified man was arrested and taken to the hospital for a self-inflicted stab wound to the neck.

Nassau police say four officers sustained smoke inhalation, another had a head injury and one sustained a wrist injury during the incident.

Authorities say they were alerted to the woman's stabbing just after midnight by a 911 from the suspect's son. The suspect's daughter was also found with defensive wounds to her wrists and ankle.
