Library raises fees due to budget cuts

THE BRONX - The New York City Public Library system is planning to increase late fees after severe budget cuts slashed funding.

Beginning Sept. 13, the late fines for DVDs will go from $1 to $3 per day. Libraries will also start charging 15 cents per page for printing. Internet access is still free.

Residents say the increased fees will hurt the unemployed. However, library workers say the fees are necessary in order to provide services.
