Livery cab drivers to get bulletproof vests in pilot program

Some livery cab drivers in New York have been chosen to wear bulletproof vests as part of a new pilot program to keep them safer

THE BRONX - Some livery cab drivers in New York have been chosen to wear bulletproof vests as part of a new pilot program to keep them safer while on duty.

According to the New York Federation of Taxi Drivers, the vests will provide another layer of protection for drivers in high-crime areas. Drivers say the vests will make them more comfortable, especially while working overnight.

The organization says livery cab drivers are the target of more than 300 robberies and assaults each month.
