Local leaders call for feds to help bad buildings

THE BRONX - Bronx and city leaders are urging the federal government to help tenants in 34 Bronx buildings dealing with deplorable conditions.

Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. wants the FDIC to disclose information on buildings that are in foreclosure and could be sold. The initiative would make new owners aware of conditions they would live in.

Lawmakers say they hope the push will force owners to improve conditions in their buildings.
