THE BRONX - A Bronx landlord admitted to stabbing his Logan Avenue tenant to death over unpaid rent, police say.

Taha Mahran, 51, was arraigned Thursday following a psychological evaluation at Jacobi Medical Center.

Police charged him with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon after they say he killed Zakir Khan, 44, Wednesday night inside the rental apartment.

According to prosecutors, Mahran showed up at the 45th Precinct building in bloody clothing and told police that he'd stabbed Khan 20 times.

Police say Khan had not paid his rent and was allegedly trying to scam Mahran.

"I told you many times about this, and you did nothing about this," Mahran told police in the confession, according to court documents. "I had to take matters into my own hands -- so I stabbed him."

Neighbors say they heard screaming from the home around 6:30 p.m., and that the two had been fighting over rent for about a year. Bangladeshi community members who knew Khan say he was a hardworking father and real estate agent.

Mahran is due back in court on Tuesday.
