FOXHURST - Foxhurst residents say they want something done about a garden on Longfellow Avenue that was closed by the city and has since become filled with garbage and rats.

Neighboring residents say the Longfellow Garden has turned into a dump, with people throwing garbage into it. Iris Rodriguez says the city's Parks Department did clean it up three months ago, but claims it left the garbage bags behind and has since neglected it.

The city closed the park, which first opened 30 years ago, after it fell into disrepair and because of a lack of money.

In response to the complaints, the Parks Department told News 12 The Bronx that it closed the site due to unsafe conditions, but adds that it’s cleaned periodically. Officials with the department also say they're assessing what needs to be done to restore the garden.
