LONGWOOD - Several children in Longwood got a valuable lesson on the discovery of Puerto Rico.

The program was put on after school at the Casita Maria Center for Arts. Children learned about Christopher Columbus's discovery of the Latin country through interactive lessons like map drawing.

People involved in the program say having these types of after-school activities helps children stay in touch with their culture.

Puerto Rico was discovered by Columbus in 1493.
