Loved ones remember Flight 587 crash victims

THE BRONX - Friends and family gathered for a memorial service dedicated to those who lost their lives when American Airlines Flight 587 crashed nine years ago.

The plane was destined for the Dominican Republic when it crashed in Queens after taking off from John F. Kennedy International Airport. The FAA says the crash was caused by a broken rudder, which split the engine in half.

All 260 passengers onboard, along with five others on the ground, were killed.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg was also in attendance for the annual ceremony at Hostos Community College, where victims' families laid flowers at a Flight 587 memorial wall.
