THE BRONX - A major hotel chain has started construction in The Bronx. The Marriott Residence Inn will be incorporated into a nine-story building along the Hutchinson River Parkway. The bottom three floors of the lease will feature conference spaces, various eateries and a fitness center. The $90 million project is the venture of Simone Property Group, Inc. Owners estimate construction of the Marriott will bring about 100 construction jobs to the borough. They say about 30 permanent jobs will come in the form of hotel staffers. The property owner expects construction to last about 15 months, with the hotel slated to open by spring 2014.
