Man charged in death of 3-year-old Bronx girl

THE BRONX - A 26-year-old Bronx man was charged with murder and manslaughter today in the death of a 3-year-old boy.

Prosecutors say Edgar Algarin hit his girlfriend's daughter, Enidaliz Ortiz, in the back sometime between 6:30 p.m. Friday night and 4 a.m. Saturday. The child was found unconscious and unresponsive by police in a 140th Street apartment on Saturday.

Algarin is expected to submit a plea tomorrow.
