Man killed in alleged Gun Hill Road DUI crash

THE BRONX - Police say a drunken driver hit and killed a pedestrian who was crossing Gun Hill Road Thursday evening.

According to authorities, a Mini Cooper driven by 53-year-old Gerard King was traveling east on Gun Hill Road at around 6 p.m. when it plowed into a 66-year-old man.

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

King now faces a slew of charges, including vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated.

According to the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, East Gun Hill Road is one of the most dangerous streets in the Bronx. In 2006 alone, six pedestrians were killed on that road.
