Man shot in stomach on Wakefield street

A man is recovering after being shot on the street in front of a Wakefield home overnight. According to police, the 27-year-old victim was walking

THE BRONX - A man is recovering after being shot on the street in front of a Wakefield home overnight. 

According to police, the 27-year-old victim was walking near Wilder and Cranford avenues at around 12:30 a.m. when a man hopped out of a black SUV, pulled out a gun and fired. The suspect then got back into the vehicle and fled the scene. 

Authorities say the victim was shot in the stomach and rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. 

Officers will not confirm whether or not they believe the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was the intended target of the crime.
