Man with BB gun recovering after being shot by police

OAK TERRACE - The NYPD says that officers shot 18 rounds at a Bronx man early this morning after they mistakenly thought he was carrying a real gun.

Mambdou Balde, 20, remains in serious, but stable condition after the shooting that occurred at around 3 a.m. outside a nightclub in Mott Haven.

Police say the man was holding a gun, refused to put it down when asked and was then fired upon. He was shot in the arm, foot and groin.

Investigators say the man had a BB gun and it did not have live bullets.

The victim is not expected to be charged.
