Manhole cover bursts into the air in West Farms

THE BRONX - A manhole cover burst into the air, startling residents in West Farms. 

The manhole explosion happened on East 172nd Street and Bryant Avenue. Neighbors describe hearing a loud bang when it happened. 

Con Edison, the FDNY and the NYPD were all on hand to secure the area while utility workers investigated the cause of the blast. Gas was also shut off on the block. 

No injuries were reported and there was no damage caused to any nearby cars.
