Manhole explosions force evacuations on Bathgate Avenue in Belmont

THE BRONX - Two manhole explosions in Belmont forced some families out of their homes on Thanksgiving morning.

Firefighters say two apartment buildings on Bathgate Avenue were evacuated at around 8:30 a.m. The two fires were quickly put out, but not before flames spread to the basement of one of the buildings.

Con Edison also responded to the scene to help restore some power outages.

The FDNY says there were no injuries, and the explosions are under investigation.
