THE BRONX - The high-stakes hostage drama playing out off the coast of Somalia is bringing attention to local students who might soon be traveling on the high seas.

Students at the SUNY Maritime College say their training will prepare them for any encounter with pirates. Students say they have run mock drills simulating an attack on their vessel.

On Wednesday, Somali pirates overtook an American cargo ship, the first such attack on American sailors in about 200 years. The captain of the ship remains held captive.

AP wire services were used in this report.
