Mass held in gym after church is destroyed

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - Dozens of parishioners attended morning services in a gymnasium Sunday after their church went up in flames Friday.

Congregants from St. Nicholas of Tolentine sat in plastic folding chairs lining the school gym for Sunday Mass after a fire destroyed their place of worship. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze, but say the intensity of the fire has led them to deem it suspicious.

Worshippers say they will raise money to help pay for a new electrical system and also donate time to help clean up the damaged church. They hope to be praying there again by Easter.
