Pre-K teacher initiative
NEW YORK - Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a major hiring push to help implement his universal pre-kindergarten plan this September, despite not yet receiving the necessary funding.
De Blasio says he wants to get 1,000 new teachers on the city's payroll as he touts his administration's readiness to handle pre-K for more than 50,000 students in the fall.
He’s still waiting on funding from Albany with just days to go before the state budget is due.

Anyone interested in applying must hold one of several New York State teaching certificates. Otherwise, those with a bachelor's degree can apply to teach at a community based organization while working toward a teaching certificate.
