THE BRONX - Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed a new plan to provide more affordable housing.

With his plan, new housing units would be built on vacant public housing property.

The plan is similar to one proposed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg's plan, though, was to lease that land to developers to construct market-rate apartment buildings.

De Blasio's plan also includes the construction of some supermarkets and retail stores.
