WASHINGTON - Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio headed to the White House today for a meeting with President Barack Obama.

De Blasio sat down with other newly elected mayors from across the country for a discussion on urban issues with both the president and Vice President Joe Biden.

The meeting touched on creating jobs and what the Obama administration could do for middle-class Americans.

"It's obviously incredibly gratifying that the president has asked those of us who are newly elected to come to the White House and discuss common goals," the soon-to-be mayor said. "This is a president that I share a lot of values with."

De Blasio officially takes office on Jan. 1.
