MELROSE - Mayor Michael Bloomberg was in the Bronx this afternoon, where he announced a new affordable housing project in Melrose.

The five-building project with nearly 1,000 units will border Bergen and Brooke avenues and East 149th Street. Community leaders say the project will help revitalize the borough.

Bloomberg, whose last day in office is Dec. 31, says the project is part of his effort to create more affordable housing in the city.
