NEW YORK - Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke about his high hopes for the future of New York City.

The mayor choked back tears speaking before the Association for a Better New York Thursday morning, saying in part, "If we all pull together and stand up for one another, we will remain what we are today, the greatest city in the world."

Bloomberg also mentioned his personal life and the upcoming birth of his first grandchild.

He joked that he knows he’s going to tell his grandson, "This is your generation's city. It's the greatest city in the world. Don't screw it up."
