NEW YORK - Mayor Michael Bloomberg is once again reassuring the public that New York City is safe, and prepared to prevent or respond to acts of terror.

In light of the Boston Marathon bombings, the mayor and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly toured the lower Manhattan security initiative Tuesday. The system uses counterterrorism technology, linking about 4,000 security cameras around Manhattan. It also has the ability to identify if a package was left unattended in some locations.

Bloomberg said, "There's no guarantees in life, but I will say that what I've learned over the years is that there's no city that does it better. There's no police department that does it better."
