NEW YORK - The mayor's office is spreading the word on how to get help concerning domestic violence.

Workers with the Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence and the NYPD went around Fordham on Monday handing out fliers and putting up posters for domestic violence victims.

It's part of an effort to get victims the help they need and to get the word out to those who are often afraid to speak up.

Since opening in 2010, the Bronx Domestic Violence Center on East 161st Street has seen more than 51,000 clients. Its patients are Bronx residents who are victims of domestic violence, elder abuse or sex trafficking.

The posters and fliers have useful information and phone numbers for victims to call.

Last month alone, the Bronx Family Justice Center for Domestic Violence Victims saw 1,700 clients. The center is open to anyone Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
