THE BRONX - Residents living in a Parkchester building are demanding answers as to why their maintenance fees are increasing.

Parkchester South Condominium residents were able to discuss the issue with building managers Thursday at a public town hall meeting.

In February, management raised the maintenance fee for unit owners over 15 percent, which means roughly $80 to $120 a month for each condo owner for the next two years until repairs are finished.

Management says it’s necessary for building repairs that are necessary to keep residents safe.

Residents have been working with state Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda and state Sen. Ruben Diaz to fight the increase and find out exactly where their money is going.

After months of them asking, management showed the residents a breakdown of their finances at the town hall meeting.

After seeing the breakdown, residents say it is not fair that they have to pay for years of neglect in the building.

The tenants, along with Assemblyman Sepulveda and Sen. Diaz, filed a lawsuit against management in March, but say they are trying to see if they can come to an agreement.

Management says they will not do away with the increase, but will work with residents to spread out the cost over a longer period of time.
