THE BRONX - The city agencies and stakeholders involved in the Pelham Parkway improvement project are expected to meet later this month.

John Frada, of Community Board 11, says the much-needed project has been requested since 1986.

Construction on the parkway's north end was slated to begin this spring, but News 12 is told there have been back-and-forth discussions among city agencies trying to finalize a design plan.

The improvements will include rehabilitation of the bridal path, planting greenery, replacement of park benches and installing new sidewalks and curbs.

Frada says the project will also include reworking of all the water mains and infrastructure along the highway to help stymie the flooding, which is particularly egregious on the eastern end near Stillwell Avenue.

Community Board 11 says that it hopes the construction will begin by the fall and be completed within two years.
