THE BRONX - The men accused in what police are calling a case of road rage that shut down the Macombs Dam Bridge yesterday tell News 12 The Bronx that police have it wrong.

Police say an off-duty officer was assaulted by four passengers of a car on the bridge. He ended up firing his weapon at them, according to authorities.

Daniel Torres, who was the driver of the Honda Accord, says the off-duty Bridges and Tunnels officer pulled up next to him and asked why he cut him off. He says the fight began when the officer threw the first punch.

One of the car?s passengers, David Wagner, is in intensive care at Harlem Hospital with a gunshot wound.
