Metro-North ignites smoking ban on all platforms

Commuters will no longer be able to light up while waiting for the Metro-North after its new smoking ban went into effect yesterday. In compliance

THE BRONX - Commuters will no longer be able to light up while waiting for the Metro-North after its new smoking ban went into effect yesterday.

In compliance with MTA law, the Metro-North now prohibits anyone from smoking at outdoor ticketing, boarding or platform areas. The MTA had voted in favor of the ban back in September.

Those who are caught smoking will only get a warning for now. It's unclear when that grace period will expire, but when it does, violators could face a $50 fine and up to 30 days in jail.
