THE BRONX - A Bronx nonprofit organization is proposing a new method for commuting to and from Manhattan.

The Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance has suggested the idea for ferry service between the Bronx and Manhattan that would stop in Ferry Point Park and Soundview Park.

Officials say a ferry would be cheaper than taking a Select Bus or driving, estimating that the ferry would cost about $4 a ride.

They also say it would save time for commuters, since the waterways don’t have the same traffic as the roads.

The group says introducing a ferry service would not call for major infrastructure changes.
