THE BRONX - Michael Espada, an 11-year-old boy in desperate need of a kidney transplant, will soon get the help that he needs.
His family says doctors are holding off on the surgery because of the poor living conditions of the family's apartment, which was deemed unsafe for post-surgery recovery.
After a News 12 report aired about his story, Debbrah Figuera, who happens to be a contractor, contacted News 12 to offer her help.
Figuera and her team plan to fix the apartment in three days free of charge. The team will caulk mice holes, replace a wall in the bedroom and bathroom to eliminate mold growth, and replace the entire kitchen floor.
Ironically, the building's maintenance workers also paid the Espadas a visit on Monday with intentions of making repairs.
