THE BRONX - Police say they have a woman in custody who allegedly posed as a real estate agent and duped people into giving up cash.

Authorities say 23-year-old Monessa Samuels ran her scam on people looking at an apartment on Van Nest Avenue in Morris Park. News 12 The Bronx found out last week that the suspect listed the apartment on Craigslist back in February and showed it to all three victims.

Police say they gave her cash deposits, hoping to move in, but never heard from her again. The landlord of the building says the victims were able to identify her in a lineup on Tuesday.

Police have not said at this time how they tracked Samuels down, but the landlord says police told him that she has pulled similar stunts before. He says the district attorney warned him that Samuels is part of a ring of scammers, although that has yet to be confirmed by police.

Samuels is being charged with two counts of grand larceny and one count of petty larceny.
