THE BRONX - Parishioners in the Bronx are mourning the loss of the longest serving pastor in New York.

Monsignor Gerald Ryan, of Saint Luke's Parish in Mott Haven, passed away Thursday night at the age of 93 following a battle with stomach cancer.

Ryan had been a fixture in the Catholic community on East 138th Street since 1966. He first became known for his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement and remained active in the church even after his retirement at 75 years old.
