THE BRONX - A Monsignor Scanlan High School alumnus is lending a helping hand to the school after it was damaged in a fire last month.

John Mulligan is donating $20,000 toward new gym bleachers for the school. He says he is hoping to build up the school's athletics program and attract different events to the school.

Monsignor Scanlan sustained heavy damage during a three-alarm fire that sparked on Jan. 17. It started in the boiler room and damaged two labs, an office and the chapel altar.

The Throggs Neck school is relying on the generosity of the community to continue rebuilding.
