NEW YORK - More than 100 hospital workers could lose their jobs even after a court battle to keep them.

The city plans to lay off 144 workers in medical centers affiliated with the Health and Hospitals Corporation. All the workers to be laid off are non-medical personnel such as payroll staff, electricians and maintenance, according to hospital officials.

In the Bronx, this includes Jacobi Medical Center, North Central Bronx Hospital and Lincoln Hospital.

The decision to lay off these workers came after an appellate court judge reversed a lower court decision to halt the firings.

The layoffs could begin as early as September this year.
