THE BRONX - More than 80 firefighters battled a fire Tuesday at a scrap metal yard in the South Bronx.

The blaze broke out at Sims Metal Management on 850 Edgewater St. It took firefighters around two hours to extinguish the flames, especially since they had to use cranes to pick up scraps and spray them individually.

One metal worker says employees tried to contain the fire themselves, but chose to call the FDNY.

Fire officials say scraps of metal accidentally sparked and caused the fire.

No one was reported injured.
