THE BRONX - Students from Mott Hall Charter School learned about the restaurant business today at a Midtown hotspot.

Sixth-grade students had the opportunity to learn about a career in the food industry as they shadowed managers, waiters and chefs at Amali restaurant. The students were selected for the trip based on their interests.

“We put out a survey to our students and asked them who would be interested in learning about the restaurant business,” said Bob Lesser, founder of Mott Hall Charter. “We picked the students who selected it as their No. 1 choice."

Lesser and James Mallios, the owner of Amali, were high school friends. They say they hope to make the students’ learning experience a yearly tradition.
