THE BRONX - Kids in Mount Eden are working to make substantive changes in their neighborhood.

The Bronx Helpers have been petitioning the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) to create a "slow zone" along Townsend Avenue. They have also been calling for measures to make it easier for pedestrians to see oncoming cars since 2009.

"There have been a lot of crashes at this intersection, so we're trying to make the cars slow down," says Estarlin Nunez.

The group hopes it receives a decision from the DOT within the next two weeks.
